Rembering God's Faithfulness

1978
 A Church Is Born

First CRC explores planting a second congregation in Sioux Falls. The first worship service is held in October 1977, and on March 28, 1978, Shalom is officially organized with 117 members. From an idea to a church.

1983
We Put Down Roots

The congregation purchases land at 49th & Southeastern for $69,964, votes to build despite economic uncertainty, breaks ground in April 1982, and worships in its new building by February 1983. Faith becomes a permanent home.

1990
We Grow

Shalom grows from 236 members in 1983 to 406 by 1988, more than doubling its number of families. That growth leads to construction of the 440-seat sanctuary, beginning in 1990.
God grows the church.

2001
We Give Thanks

After years of growth and building, Shalom pays off its church loan in full and celebrates with a mortgage-burning ceremony.
Faithfulness through stewardship.

2000s–2010s
We Reach Out

Shalom develops ministries for children, youth, adults and the community, including GEMS, Cadets, Coffee Break, VBS, Banquet service, outreach and missions. The church increasingly becomes a place not only to worship, but to serve.
The church looks outward.

2028
We Look Forward

The Ministry Partners Project begins in 2016, creating deeper partnerships with ministry organizations. Shalom continues developing outreach, missions, Friendship Ministry, youth ministry and other ministries while adapting its facilities and worship life.
God's faithfulness leads us forward.
