The Four Movements
At Shalom, we seek to make progress in what we call the "four movements" of our mission. As we make progress in these areas, each at our own speed and in our own unique way, we will be growing in what we will do to seek to live into the vision statement. The hopes and/or expectations of anyone who is part of what God is doing at Shalom is to be actively involved in these four movements. This is how we GROW in Christ. This is our path for discipleship to Jesus Christ.
Discipleship
“We invite everyone to cultivate a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ”
We seek to extend Jesus’ simple invitation to follow Him to everyone. Jesus provided the mission for His Church when He called us to,
“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” -Matthew 28:19-20
We seek to live as deeply devoted students and followers of Jesus. We are becoming more like Him, learning , with God’s help, to live our lives as Jesus would live them. Our hope is that everyone at Shalom will engage in the process of actively following Jesus and help others to do the same.
Worship
“Celebrating in worship”
We will gather in worship and we will seek to live as worshippers of God. As we are created as worshippers, our worship is directed and focused on adoration of the Triune God. We are made holy in Christ and we will seek to live into this holiness. This happens through a life lived in the presence of God and we gather corporately with joy-filled, grateful hearts. Our thankfulness spills out in awe-filled lives of passionate worship.
Community
“Care for and encourage each other”
As the body of Christ, the Church, we will be a loving community of faith. We are not intended to live this life of faith alone. We need each other which is why Jesus instituted the Church. We journey together as we encourage, challenge, carry and push one another.
Service
” Communicate Christ to the world.”
Jesus tells us to “Go.” We see “the Church,” not primarily as a place where people “come,” but a family of Jesus followers who are “sent.” Therefore, we will be an outward-focused community where our lives overflow in compassionate service and in the proclamation of the Good News of Jesus: that the Kingdom of God is available to all! As Jesus came as a servant, we are also to serve. We carry Christ with us into every area of life. Our unique giftedness is used to carry out God’s mission in the local church and beyond – to the ends of the earth.
